Targeted Enhanced Recruitment Scheme (TERS)
TERS is an initiative that has, for 3 years, offered a one off payment of £20,000 to GP trainees committed to working in training locations that have had a history of under-recruitment. The scheme has been expanded to offer payment to trainees choosing to train in under-doctored or deprived areas to reflect that often trainees remain in substantive posts within those areas after training.
London has areas of significant under-doctoring aligned to pockets of severe deprivation and will use its newly allocated TERS funding to support trainees who commit to work in our most deprived practices and primary care networks in those boroughs identified as having the greatest shortage of GPs. Whereas previously TERS funding was allocated in smaller batches across the most under-doctored or deprived boroughs for 2023 it has been agreed to more closely target TERS funding to areas of particular need:
1. Barking & Dagenham
2. Bexley
3. Ilford
IMD (indices of multiple deprivation) data will used to create rotations through the most deprived PCNs and practices for each borough and TERS trainees will rotate exclusively through these practices/PCNs chosen at time of ranking in recruitment process.
