Clinical Oncology
Introduction
The London Specialty School of Clinical Oncology offers dynamic and challenging training for over 150 trainees and offers training opportunities at prestigious teaching centres at 13 leading hospitals throughout London and the south east.
Our progressive programmes are designed to cover all aspects of the specialty. Practical experience is gained in treatment planning for radiotherapy, cytotoxic chemotherapy, and immunotherapy as well as palliative care and the managerial aspects of providing a cancer service. At the same time there is formal training in radiation physics, pharmacology, statistics, cell biology and radiobiology.
Trainees are taught to communicate effectively through integration in teams of specialist nurses, radiographers, physicists, surgeons, and other clinicians from the outset. We also encourage time out of programme either in research through clinical trials or translational research or time spent abroad.
Head of School
The Head of School for the London/KSS Specialty School of Clinical Oncology is Dr Won-Ho Edward Park. He is responsible for the quality of training across the two geographical areas, in a combined training programme.
Dr Won-Ho Edward Park is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Imperial NHS Trust. He was previously Training Programme Director for the South Thames rotation and Oncology Undergraduate Training Lead at Imperial NHS Trust. Ed's clinical interests are in the management of Gynaecological and Oesophago-gastric malignancies. His educational interests are varied including the development of a Communication Skills training course.

Training Programme
Training in Clinical Oncology is delivered within two training programmes:

Our training programmes rotate across two regions in London and the south east of England:
North, East & Central
North Middlesex University Hospital, Royal Free Hospital, Mount Vernon Hospital, University College London Hospital, Queen’s Hospital (BHR Trust) and St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
South, West & KSS
Charring Cross & Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Sussex County Hospital, Guy’s & St Thomas' Hospital, Kent & Canterbury Hospital, Maidstone General Hospital, Royal Marsden Hospital (Fulham & Sutton) and the Royal Surrey County Hospital.
Expected programme completion time is five years. Trainees are assessed through the Fellowship Examination of The Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR).
FRCR part I, covering the basic cancer sciences of radiation physics, pharmacology, statistics, cell biology and radiobiology, is sat from the first year of specialist training. FRCR part II, needed to progress to years 4 and 5, deals with the basic management of malignant diseases. Years 4 and 5 allow trainees to broaden their experience while providing time for research and opportunities to develop their management skills.
Specialty Training Committee (STC) and School Board Pan London Forum information
The London/KSS Specialty School of Clinical Oncology holds STC and School Board meetings three times a year with trainee representation. The purpose of these groups are to bring together the training programme directors and educator leads from each of the postgraduate training centres to consider issues of mutual interest in relation to Clinical Oncology training, and to foster and share good practice.
