Further Notes and Information

Q11  How do you manage patients who offer you benefits connected with their business or professional expertise?

For example a restaurant owner who offers you a free meal or an architect who offers to look over your extension plans. Can you identify times when this has happened? Can you identify any possible problems that could arise as a result?

These situations can occur as somehow separated from the therapeutic milieu. Consider that all interactions are part of what constitutes the professional relationship and all shape less tangible aspects of treatment and recovery. Also consider the risks of such extension to the professional relationship: what kinds of things can and do go wrong with eating at restaurants or building a house? How might these interface with the treatment relationship?
