De-stigmatising Healthcare for Healthcare Professionals

(Practical strategies for working with colleagues who are ill or stressed)

This conference built on the launch of the Fit for Work guide and explored social and medical aspects of the provision of healthcare to healthcare professionals, through interactive workshops. A post-Francis NHS must address the culture of healthcare including how we perceive and respond to illness in our colleagues, and how we behave when managing / supporting the clinician as patient.

It is becoming apparent that doctors and other healthcare professionals believe that they will be stigmatised because of illness or disability. That this should occur in healthcare, where the focus is on helping people with illness, is both shocking and unacceptable. In this conference we have begun to address this by raising awareness of the problems and having conversations about them. A wide range of experts have come together to present information based on their experience and practice and to suggest how we can all work together to de-stigmatise healthcare for healthcare professionals. This video will give you a flavour of what was said and of what sort of support is available to support healthcare professionals.
